Deviance Essays (528 words) - Criminology, Deviance,

Deviance When we speak of deviance, every individual can have a different definition of what deviance is and what it stands for. What I may take offensive, might be element of survival in your community. So to give a more specific definition of deviance, we can refer to a socially disapproved behavior or a violation of a social norm. Not everyonecan say that they would refer to deviance in the same aspect which is shown through the field experiment I have conducted. I conducted a field experiment in which I interviewed ten individuals, giving them a list of deviant acts in our society. I asked them to rank them from 1-15 where 1 is the least deviant act and 15 being the most deviant.. Each individual has a different view in relation to there personal lives and the communities they live in The outcome of the my research found many links between the age, sex and economic backgrounds, and the rankings There was a basic trend to the survey that did not surprise me. The highest ranking numbers were almost always, murder or rape, while the lowest numbers were given to embezzlement, and setting prices of machines. We see that the crimes that have immediate effects of a certain individual, such as murder, are on the ?high? end, and the crimes which effect a part or the whole community over time, are on the ?lower? end. The explain a lot about how our society is trained to think as a whole. We look at acts of violence played out on a single individual being worse than those on a whole economic system. Killing a young boy is worse than selling liqueur to him, that could kill him easily. In our culture we seem to be concerned only with the ?now?, not the future. When we step back and look at gender for a moment, we see some obvious differences. I first noticed that rape was rated number very different between men and women. Where as women rated rape 15-13 on the scale, men rated in 14-10. Think is because sociologically speaking rape effects more women then men, and therefore effect the scaling of the items. In differences between age group there is slight differentiation in the higher numbers, but the lower numbers, were very different from adults. While younger people rated selling liqueur to minors and being drunk in public the lowest on the scale, older adults rated them much higher. The economic based acts were also rated lower on average in younger people, than older people. Through the ?scoring? of each act, we can see how even the same society can influence different groups of people in different ways. We learn that age, sex, and economic background all have a great impact on of you view deviance. People in a with low economic status, rated violence and crimes against the individual higher. This could because they see violent acts happeninig in everyday life, whereas a person with high economic status, sees events that happen to the economy, or in the ?high-society? as more serious. The society ?teaches? us that deviance is not acceptable, and to be successful you must at all cost not stray from the path. The deviant act one chooses to participate in shows us how well the acts have internalized the cultures Sociology Essays

Developmental Disability And Aging Analysis Social Work Essay Essays

Developmental Disability And Aging Analysis Social Work Essay Essays Developmental Disability And Aging Analysis Social Work Essay Essay Developmental Disability And Aging Analysis Social Work Essay Essay Aging people with a developmental disablement have been populating every bit long as people in the general population ( Brown A ; Percy, 2003 ) . However, the populations of people who are aging with a disablement age 20 to twenty five old ages faster than an aging grownup without a disablement. Therefore, health professionals may non understand the issues that are happening ( Kailes, 2008 ) . There is an sweetening in wellness attention, betterments in nutrition and criterions of life have been increased, this could be the ground why aging people with a disablement are populating longer ( Brown A ; Percy, 2003 ) . This besides could be because there are more supports set in topographic point for persons. Peoples with developmental disablements did non unrecorded past the age of 20 legion old ages ago, a ground for this could be that these persons did nt hold picks and where kept in refuges where they were mistreated ( Brown A ; Percy, Developmenatal disablements, 2003 ) . Now a t wenty-four hours s, persons have picks to populate life as they see fit. This has led us to believe that their quality of life has increased because these persons are populating a full life filled with hopes, and dreams. Since people with a developmental disablement are populating longer, they are faced with the same aging concerns as the following individual, for case, Alzheimer disease, respiratory jobs, and loss of vision and hearing are all aging issues ( Brown A ; Percy, Developmental Disabilities, 2003 ) . Peoples with developmental disablements are more prone to certain wellness issues because their immune system is weaker and the opportunities of acquiring ill are increased. These persons deserve the same intervention as you and I receive ; nevertheless, the medical universe may hold a hard clip naming the job due to the indiv idual s age and their disablement. Performance Apprasial Management Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Performance Apprasial Management - Assignment Example Biasness must also be avoided and the necessary actions from the appraisal should be communicated effectively and efficiently to the concerned parties. Companies that have done appraisal well have always been associated with better performance and high employee motivation (Schuler 2006). To achieve the process, employees must be handled as rational people and should not be intimidated. Reasons for appraisal There are various reasons why organizations engage in employee performance. First, it is through evaluation that the organization and employees get to know of the feedback of their performance (Schermerhorn 1993). Research has shown that if employees obtain feedback on their performance, they get to feel appreciated and are therefore ready to continue with their positive performance or improve their efficiency through taking corrective actions. Appraisal also makes employees get motivated. Motivation is the urge of doing or not doing something. If appreciated through giving feedba ck and when employees are challenged of the gap that can be filled to increase efficiency, they get motivated and their commitment to the organization increases (Grote 1996). As a result, the employees’ turnover will reduce and organizational continuity will be enhanced. Another reason for appraisal s to help peg employee rewards. Organizations’ that undertake appraisal get to determine the rewards and bonus on performance. Promotions and retentions will always be based on the appraisal results (Smith & Hornsby 1966). Moreover, appraisals are aimed at identifying the employees training needs and the employees that need to be taken for further training. The employers will therefore be geared at matching the skills required in performance and those in possession by the employees. This will prevent organizations losses and breakages and increase output. In addition, employees’ appraisal is aimed at improving the interaction between the employee and the supervisor h ence creating team building (Lingham 2007). The employees interaction will be enhanced and strong relationship will be created between the employees and supervisors. Appraisal also helps in the revision of employee policies (Smith & Hornsby 1966). Companies like PepsiCo and diamond international that have employed performance appraisal have realized improvements in their performance and high employee morale. In PepsiCo for instance, employees who have achieved exceptional performance are rewarded with bonus and their promotion guaranteed (Armstrong & Appelbaum 2003). These employees are always retained and preferred in cases where the company needs to improve their production of their staff. The same applies in Diamond international where employees, efforts are recognized and rewarded (Schermerhorn 1993). In these companies, there has been increaseproduction and low employee turnover. Through performance appraisal, corrective actions are made and company’s’ products im proved (Alvi 2011). Performance appraisal is therefore value additive when properly done and implemented. Trends in Performance Appraisal Currently, the appraisal methods have tremendously changed to conform to the new organizational structures and objectives (Bhatia 1981). The first trend in employee evaluation is the linking of employees’ performance to the general organizational objectives (Lingham 2007).
